My Faith
My conservative beliefs are deeply rooted in Christianity. I believe in God. I am not a member of any church in Laurel and it would be hypocritical of me to begin attending a different one each Sunday so that I would appear mainstream to my neighbors. My faith is deeper than that.
My relationship with God is an immensely personal one. There is a conversation in the movie Forrest Gump between Forrest and his dying wife, Jenny. Forrest is reminiscing about the period in his life when he ran alone back and forth across the country. In reference to a lake in the Colorado Rockies, Forrest said, “The water was so blue, that it was like two skies. You couldn’t tell where one ended and the other began.”
“I’m sorry,” Jenny lamented, “I wish I could have been there.”
Forrest responded, “You were.”
That is the best way I can describe my relationship with God. He is always there. It makes no difference whether I am struggling to finish a marathon, or hunting in knee deep snow alone on top of a mountain. He is always there.
