While chasing cows through the timber this pony
drove a tree branch through the hairline and under his hoof wall.

During one of our Double Rafter Cattle Drives in
June of 1995, we were running the extra horses and mules 12 miles to the
next camp. The mules stopped, looked, and then jumped this cattle
guard. "Splash", who never was an athlete, tried to jump it but landed
squarely in the middle of it. That is me in the white hat preparing to
anesthetize him so we could manipulate his feet out of the cattle guard.
We were successful and the hose was named "Splat" from then on.
