Addendum 1776

A couple Sunday’s back, I was dead asleep at 4 o’clock in the morning when suddenly, I was shot out of bed by shrieking sirens and red flashing lights. I was confused as to my whereabouts, but my senses returned when I stumbled over three of the four grandkids slumbering on my floor. Once at the window, I spotted a classic, Hollywood, high-speed chase in my pasture. The perpetrator was in a pickup with patrol car #1 hot on his bumper. Patrol car #2 blocked my driveway cattleguard to cutoff the offender, were he a rational thinker. He was not. The pickup rocketed across an 18-inch-deep irrigation ditch before blasting through the fence and three mailboxes next to the cattleguard. The perp was racing south, and he was living the dream. One hour later, the nice officer driving car #1, returned to explain damage claim procedures. Ironically, his name was Chase and here is why this is timely.

Progressives refuse to admit that criminals do not follow the law as evidenced by the above offender who broke several laws before smashing my mailbox. American jurisprudence is written solely for citizens who naturally follow the law. It is a Romans 13 thing. Hence, John Adams prophetic quote, “Our Constitution was only for a moral or religious people and is wholly inadequate for the government of any other.” God is and must remain part of the American experiment and this brings me to the 1776 addendum to Romans 13.

Under Divine Providence, Thomas Jefferson declared our natural rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness as originating directly from our Creator. It was self-evident. The only function of government was to secure those rights after obtaining the consent of the governed. For General Washington’s rag-tag, poorly armed and starving patriots to gain independence by defeating the British superpower required Divine intervention. The American victory was God’s. Answer me this: If Romans 13 suggests Christians be complacent to every government decree, why did God give life to the dream called America? Our constitutional republic requires citizen participation, not blind obedience and this brings me to my point.

Covid-19 guidelines are scientific fantasy like believing there are 75 genders, and the ruling class can control the climate through tax policy. Because mask mandates, social distancing requirements and mandating vaccinations have not been argued before elected representatives, they do not hold the authority of American law. I reject the idea President Biden can grant or deny sparklers over Independence Day based on citizen compliance to public health orders. It is not a law, and I am not following it per Addendum 1776. Let freedom ring!
