Anxiety

I was reared on the family ranch in eastern Montana. The topography was mostly greasewood and alkali flats intersected by the occasional creek bottom. East of the Rockies, the curvature of the earth is the only thing limiting your view in any direction and folks from the mountainous regions of Montana find the openness of the plains disconcerting. To the contrary, the mountains can be unnerving to the flatlanders as I discovered as a young boy. Here is the story.

My family often road tripped to Wyoming’s Big Horn Mountains, so my two brothers and I were stuffed in the back of the family station wagon with groceries, sleeping bags and a couple dogs. This was in the days before car seats, so we were free to roll and wrestle if no sibling was pitched out an open window. It took two hours to motor from Ingomar to the foot of the mountains at Dayton, and here is where things became problematic. In Dayton, Dad would announce he was tuckered out and needed to crawl into the third seat for a nap. This put Mom behind the wheel, and because she rarely drove in the four years I had known her, I silently questioned her ability to drive up the face. Climbing the mountains and staring at the vast openness below us revealed my fear of heights, so I pasted myself to the floorboards and prayed we wouldn’t die. Back then, I was expected to suck it up, whereas with today’s youth, anxiety is championed.

Recently, a group of well-coached, heavily indoctrinated Montana youth won a lawsuit against the State of Montana (Held vs Montana) claiming climate change worries gave them anxiety. What a crock. The communist wing of the Democrat Party, and that is redundant, has been capitalizing on the malleability of the adolescent mind to advance their totalitarian agenda. In the ‘70s it was the impending ice age, followed by global warming in the ‘80s. Then the mantra of climate change was brilliantly adopted, and it is so universal it will remain the rallying cry of communism through perpetuity. If it is too wet, too hot, too cold, too dry, too windy, or too sunny, it easily fits under the climate change banner thereby allowing all weather anomalies to be blamed on western capitalism. Cowards lacking talent, training and ambition promote the cold, wet blanket of socialism as utopia even though this miserable existence enriches the ruling class at the expense of the little people. Watching the misinformed embrace socialism by labeling it the green economy, should cause great anxiety in all Americans.
