Bad News

In 1983, one-third of we Colorado State vet students finished our junior year in May and then immediately started our senior rotation. Essentially, we traded our summer break for an earlier graduation. While speaking at our mini-commencement in December, interim-dean Dr. Venable announced, “I have some bad news and some really bad news. The bad news is half of what we taught you is wrong. The really bad news is we do not know which half it is.” His words have been immensely prophetic throughout my 39-year career and here is an example:

We were taught feedlot cattle can develop intestinal flora which produce an enzyme which breaks down the B-vitamin, thiamine. Cattle deficient in thiamine developed polioencehpalomalacia and were blind, ataxic, or convulsing. If treated early, afflicted critters responded well to thiamine. The pathogenesis was believable but could not explain the disparity of some feedlots suffering massive numbers of “brainers” and others none. Polio is now known to be sulfate poisoning where the ruminal fermentation of high sulfate feed and water produces toxic hydrogen sulfide gas. Because I was not married to the first polio theory and certainly received no financial reward to propagate the same, jumping to the truth caused me no angst.

Apparently, medical school commencement speakers lack the wisdom of Colorado State’s Dr. Venable. To the contrary, I speculate recent graduating doctors are told to abandon medical curiosity and scientific principles and wholly embrace the new and improved scientific facts endorsed by big pharma, Dr. Fauci, the FDA, CDC, NIH and WHO. To practice medicine successfully in 2021, toss logic and scientific papers aside and simply follow Covid treatment protocols. The fact that the US has the highest percent Covid treatment fatalities in the world is not your concern. Keep sending patients home until they are so sick they can barely walk, then admit them, pump them full of Remdesivir, blow a little oxygen up their nose and notify staff down the line another hot one is coming. Once again, this brings me to my point.

Accumulating data proves the Covid stroke poke is neither safe nor effective. When a medical professional says the contrary you not only have the right, but the obligation to correct them. Be courteous but firm. They are wrong, you know it and they know it. To wordsmith a famous Ronald Reagan quote, it is not that my doctor “friends are ignorant. Its just that so much of what they know to be true just isn’t so.” Be gentle when you break the bad news they are nothing more than Dr. Fauci’s wench.
