Breakthrough

My veterinary practice has changed because strip malls, subdivisions, and sports bars are replacing feedlots, cornfields, and cow pastures. As I drive the backroads, I will see a grove of cottonwoods which surrounded an old barn where I had pulled a calf or roped a reluctant patient with a uterine prolapse. Today, the barn is gone as are the days of farm calls. Being a road warrior cow doctor is not easy, but it granted me the gift of being a full-time father to the youngest of my three. As Tyler approached age four, he decided he was done with the babysitter thing and within an hour of being dropped at the sitters, he would hoof it home. We tried all the tricks and tips endorsed by childless pediatricians in Parents magazine, but Tyler was having none of it. Each morning a half-hour before departure, Tyler would stand in the corner and cry. Finally, I cracked, and he made calls with me every day for several years.

Being a vet assistant taught Tyler things he would never learn in school. One cold day in February I was preg-checking a small package of cows. It was double-digits below zero and when we pulled up to the corrals, Tyler spotted a frozen stock tank near the squeeze chute. Against my advice, the tank became his pretend hockey rink, and he was having a blast until he broke through the thin ice near the tank heater. He said not a word when he sheepishly sloshed over to the chute. I smirked and kept long-arming cows thinking his lesson was not complete. There is a fine line between acquiring wisdom and sloughing toes and I intended on getting Tyler as close to that line as I could. We finished the cows and on the 30-mile trip home Tyler stripped to his shorts and stuck his toes into the heater vents. It was a good day, and this brings me to my point.

Just as Tyler forced me to step it up as a father, Fauci’s virus, his lockdowns, facemasks, and stroke poke mandates have also triggered a breakthrough. Contrary to the beliefs of collectivist school administrators, teacher unions and school boards hellbent on destroying the American family, the rearing of children is the right and responsibility of parents. Woke educators must be taught one’s skin color is not of greater value than one’s character and there are two genders and one God. Either demand government get their hands off your children, or forever wish you would have. Join the parents’ breakthrough.
