Faith Family Freedom

My grandparents assembled a two-story, Sears and Roebuck mail order house on the banks of East Pass Creek in 1932. It has been our home since. Dad passed a couple years back and Mom joined him this February. Our home which had been the gathering place for many family events was home only to bats and boxelder bugs this last Christmas. This past weekend, we interred Mother s ashes in the family cemetery on the hill above the house and then gathered in the barn to swap stories over burgers and beans. Because my mini-Kimmels traveled 20 hours from Texas and my mini-Warners traveled 20 hours from California to join us, this was the perfect time to launch a family project restoring the 32 Sears and Roebuck house back into a home.

In the attached photo we are standing in front of our Double Rafter Barn, an 1890 structure we restored in 2010. I am on the far left with the trophy wife on the far right and we are wearing our patriotic Stand Up For Betsy Ross tee shirts. Between us are our grandchildren, numbered 1 to 19, from oldest to youngest. The 4 in the red tee-shirts are the mini-Kerns s, the 11 whites are the mini-Kimmels and the 4 blues are the mini-Warners. Armed with hammers, wrecking bars, wheelbarrows, shovels, and brooms this was my demo-day, dream team. The green shag carpet homesteading on the floors since the 70s resisted removal but eventually the original hardwood floor was revealed. The cousin crew crumpled an entire brick fireplace with hammers and their brick brigade moved the rubble from the dining room to the driveway in under an hour. It was impressive and they had blast. During the heat of the afternoons, my laborers would sprint to the creek to clean up and cool down. The two-story house was down to bare studs in 48 hours, and this brings me to my point.

The strength of our great republic derives from the strength of the American family. For nearly a century the left has labored to destroy the family unit; replacing fathers with government programs and mothers with Pre-K care and government schools. Big government has failed everywhere it has been tried because it runs contrary to God s design. The Almighty intended fathers to be the head of the household, have faith, work hard and be courageous. He created the Proverbs 31 wife to aid fathers in doing the same. Our nation thrives when we hold faith, family, and freedom to the esteem it deserves. Happy Independence Day.
