Nothing to Sneeze About

Working in the hayfields sucks for country kids suffering from hay fever. Both my brothers and I spent our summers with eyes swollen shut, and snotty noses. We experimented with different antihistamines, mostly ignoring the label warnings about not “operating heavy equipment while taking this medication.” Running the swather was the worst.

Decades later, while completing my medical questionnaire for my pilot’s license, I checked the box asking if I suffered from hay fever. During my physical exam the doctor noticed the hay fever box and asked if I took antihistamines during the summer. I said I did for a couple weeks in June but since my time in the hayfields was now nil, hay fever was not much of a concern. He explained the FAA takes a dim view of antihistamines due to the drowsiness factor. Apparently flying into the side of a mountain and killing all your passengers because you were dozing on Dramamine, gives aviation a black eye. It is great a government agency like the FAA truly cares about our well-being, or at least they used to.

Because United Airlines leads their industry in wokeness, they mandated the clot shot for all their employees. Social media is filled with selfies of United flight attendants and pilots with their sleeves rolled up proudly displaying the cute little Covid band-aid stuck to their shoulder. Bless their little hearts. Southwest and American Airlines attempted a me-too enlightenment, but their pilots refused to submit to trendy experiments with zero scientific basis. Now, both companies are suffering a pandemic of weather-related flight cancellations. Because we have been lab rats for about nine months, the Fauci curtain is being pulled back, and the results are less than reassuring.

A November 1, 2021, Mayo Clinic study compared the incidence of Cerebral Venous Sinus Thrombosis, CVST, in the Covid-stabbed versus the non-stabbed. Poked patients suffered CVST events 3.5 times higher than those in the general population and this brings me to my point. The FAA claims it is unsafe for me to pilot my Super Cub after taking a Benadryl but sees nothing wrong with passengers crawling onto a United flight flown by a jabbed pilot with a stroke rate 3.5 times higher than the general population. Think about that before you sit back, relax, and enjoy your flight. After five years of flying the friendly skies, data may show previous clot shots are so debilitating, all poked pilots should have been, or should be grounded. Perhaps the FAA, CDC, FDA, WHO, AMA, and NIH really don’t care about the little people after all.
