Parental Advice

Because most of my descendants are scattered across three area codes, our Thanksgiving gathering was smaller than normal. Tyler, our youngest, and his wife, Jill, do live in Yellowstone County, so they brought our four mini-Kerns kids for the day. Friends of theirs, Brianna and Thomas, have three mini-Ackerman’s who are buddies of my four Kerns grandchildren, so they joined us as well. The little Ackerman’s had been sledding at our house last winter, so knew what to expect. During their short drive over, Mom and Dad were delivering the standard, pre-holiday parental lecture. Dad explained how this Thanksgiving they were going somewhere different, so they were to be on their best behavior. Charlie, their oldest, listened intently then dismissed everything by saying, “We’re only going to the Kerns’s.” That is the greatest compliment a grandfather could ever receive from an eight-year-old boy. Charlie and his brother, Hank, were the first two through the door. Wearing matching plaid shirts, they marched shoulder to shoulder into the kitchen and blurted in unison, “Happy Thanksgiving!” Well coached and well played and this brings me to my point. Once again, I bring you parental advice about Covid because it is the right thing to do.

Even though I intend to address other subjects, each week I seem to keep beating the same dead Covid horse I beat the week before. I mention this obsession because confessing to being a dead horse beater gives the haters something to seize upon, focus on, and attack. Getting hate mail is like receiving a rent check for occupying vacant space in the brains of non-thinkers. Last week a non-fan closed her denigrating digital remarks with “I hope you lose your next election.” It made me chuckle because I termed out of Montana’s House in 2013. Sorry sister, I am on the sidelines and completely immune to public opinion. If you hate my column, don’t read it. Back to Covid.

As a show of open mindedness and reaching across the aisle, I recently purchased a book written by someone who hails from a family as far left as my family is far right. It is not that I am compromising my values, but rather this book contains valuable, referenced materials about “The Real Anthony Fauci, Bill Gates, Big Parma, and the Global War on Democracy and Public Health.” Yep, it is written by Democrat Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and even though you can find it on Amazon, ads promoting its sales are prohibited. My parental advice is to always read material the ruling class is trying to censor such as this column.
