Standing in the Storm

There was a foot of snow when five of us trotted out of hunting camp heading to the summit of Montana’s Snow Crest Range. On top, we spotted two little herds of elk, one to the north and the other to the south. We tied our horses to a solitary clump of scrub pine trees on the baren, windswept ridge and divided our forces. Two hunters hiked south while we three others climbed north over Stonehouse Mountain and butt-skied down the snow-covered scree on its steep east face. Once dropping back to tree line, we scooted through a broken timber patch to within 300 yards of the elk but before we could squeeze a trigger, a horrendous blizzard broke over the mountain. Blinded by blowing snow, we held until the storm momentarily subsided, took two quick shots and were once again swallowed by the storm. Now, we were in a pickle. The drifting snow would hide tracks and blood trails within minutes, so we hot footed it into the canyon and climbed up the far side searching for signs of a score. There was none. With visibility varying between zero and inches, we retreated up and over Stonehouse Mountain towards our horses. After trekking an hour in the whiteout, we stumbled upon the scrub trees to find our horses quietly standing, butts into the blizzard. They were so caked with snow it would have been easy to crawl past thinking they were only landscape. My two buddies who had hunted south, were hunkered down on the leeward side of our horses and they did look like landscape. We swung into the saddle and headed back to camp.

Like a horse tied to a single tree in a raging blizzard, the 2020 election scheme has tied America to a clump of scrub pines. However, unlike Mother Nature’s temporary assault on my horses’ backside, socialists are persistent, intending to kill America. Socialism simply cannot coexist with liberty and limited government, so in his first week, President Biden destroyed opportunity with 38 tyrannical executive orders. Worse yet, the ruling class now attacks patriots rejecting state sponsored lies as being domestic terrorists. Socialism always suppresses the free exchange of ideas and this brings me to my point.

While being attacked by cancel culture activists, these three publishers still have the courage to print my column: John Goggins, Jon Angell, and Jon(athon) McNiven. (I see a pattern here.) One man with courage makes a majority, so patriot subscribers best have the six of publishers boldly promoting truth, justice, and the American way. These three are the few still standing in the storm.
