Trying Times

On March 2nd, me, the trophy wife, our daughter-in-law and four of our grandchildren motored to our nearby interstate overpass to cheer the Freedom Convoy. The flags lining the highway flapped in the March breeze while cars and trucks zipping below flashed their lights and honked support. It was after dark, so rather than Old Glory being illuminated by bombs bursting in air, it was lanterns and headlights proving she was still there. The experience of being surrounded by dozens of like-minded patriots expressing their love of God and country made this truly a spiritual moment.

In 1776 in his American Crisis, Thomas Paine told us, “What we obtain too cheap, we esteem too lightly; tis dearness only which gives everything its value. Heaven knows how to put a proper price on its goods, and it seems strange indeed, so celestial article as freedom not be highly rated.” Stated otherwise, liberty is a gift from God, with its value coming from the sacrifice it takes to maintain it.

This love of God and country does not exist among the woke because their deity is government, its programs, and decrees. It is not the flapping of Old Glory which inspires them, rather it is the scene of masked and submissive subjects sporting cute little Band-Aids on their shoulders which brings a lump to their throats. Had the convoy been one of electric cars driven by transgendered activists, the mainstream media would have championed this as a premier event equal to the signing of our Declaration of Independence. It was not, so it was ignored, and this brings me to my point.

As Paine wrote, “These are the times which try men’s souls. The summer soldier and sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of their country, but he that stands by it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman.” During the interim elections this November, patriots have an opportunity to reject the woke tyranny which has choked the liberty we hold dear. The evil one has made great gains over the past 13 months, and it is getting late, but not too late. We either defend American liberty or forever wish we would have. The choice is ours.
