Please Pass the Carrots

The destruction of America is all about carrots. Let me explain. I mentioned the unraveling of society in last week’s “God and Hay-Hooks” column and I want to drive home my point. Since July we on the Law & Justice committee have received an endless barrage the corrections system is overwhelmed by mentally ill, substance abusing, youth and adult delinquents. In unison, all the corrections service providers are requesting one thing…more money. Funding won’t fix this.
The church of the socialist left is big government and their collection plate is the IRS. Either cough up what they decide is fair or they take your house and throw you in jail. All failures of modern day liberalism, and there are many, are blamed on not taxing and spending enough on behalf of the general populace. They demand more. Since 1964 over seven trillion dollars has been removed from the wallets of those who work and given to those who don’t, without any change in poverty rates. It is impossible to tax and spend our way to prosperity. If bigger government is the answer try using the words “FEMA”, “New Orleans”, “Katrina”, and “Success” all in the same sentence. The solutions lie elsewhere.
Last spring a letter to the editor accused me of being born with the proverbial “silver spoon in my mouth.” If the “silver spoon” was that I had family that cared about my success or failure, then I am guilty. Here is my silver spoon:
When I was a kid, my family began every day with all five of us at breakfast. Sometimes, when we were moving cattle, those breakfasts were at 2:00 am. Normally we ate around six. Lunches were scattered amongst hayfields, horses and school. At dinner time we were all back at the table discussing the day’s events and our thoughts about tomorrow. I am specifically using the terms “we”, “all” and “every day” for a reason. That is the way it was.
When I became the Dad we conducted our mealtime in the same fashion: All together, proper manners, every meal, and every day. It is simple and it works. Problems or triumphs by one of the family members are shared by all.
Today is your opportunity to give your family a “silver spoon”. The repair of American society will not begin with the expansion of government programs; it will begin at the family dinner table. Every parent and grandparent in this great country has the obligation to rally their family together for a meal. Whether you are age one or one-hundred, you bring your heart and soul to the table and offer yourself to your family, community and country. The TV is OFF. The radio is OFF. The video games are OFF. It is you, your family and God, discussing the day’s events. It costs nothing. Now, please pass the carrots.
