Ted Did It

It is over. Ted saved the planet. I was in Helena last week for committee meetings and as I walked through the capitol parking lot I spotted something amazing. Attached to the back of Ted’s red Jeep Cherokee was a bumper sticker that claimed: “This car’s CO2 is balanced by Terrapass.”
“Wow,” I thought to myself as I plodded along. “That is a sticker you will never see on a Powerstroke with a flatbed and bale spinner. I wonder what Ted will think when he gets home tonight and reads the latest global warming headlines.”
In case you missed it, the earth has just experienced a 12 month period of record breaking global cooling. For the first time in recorded history it snowed in Baghdad and China has the coldest winter in 100 years. The four major global temperature tracking institutions (Hadley, NASA’s GISS, UAH, and RSS) reported that between January ’07 and ’08 the earth’s average temperature dropped 0.595 degrees C. That may not sound like much but that one year of cooling completely negated the previous 100 years of global warming. Obviously rising CO2 emissions have virtually no effect on the earth’s temperature when compared to the effect of solar activity. That is a secret of the socialist left.
Ted, like other global warming alarmists, will claim that it was his purchase of carbon credits that saved the planet. I really don’t care. Due to sun spot inactivity the earth is entering a period of global cooling, so the Al Gore hysteria is over, right? Well…not exactly.
This February, while you were busy working to pay your taxes, Ron de Young, Montana’s Agriculture Director, successfully cosponsored his national association’s endorsement of legislation to begin the nationwide cap and trading of carbon-credits. Under the illusion that man can control such things, your hard-earned money will be consumed by carbon-credits…to lessen CO2 emissions…to stop global warming…of a planet that is already cooling. (Somehow this makes sense to the left.)
Governor Schweitzer’s Climate Change Panel will charge ahead with their 54 recommendations to lower Montana’s greenhouse gas emissions and cripple our state economy. They won’t be slowed by data, details, or reality.
Earth has experienced warming and cooling cycles since the beginning of time. The only permanency to the issue at hand is that of our economic freedom. If we allow the left to pull us over the cliff of carbon-credit based socialism we will never recover. Is our generation the one where freedom becomes extinct?
