Constitutional Initiative #151 to raise the minimum wage made the ballot. For those of you living on the minimum wage, I am going to let you in on a little secret the tax-and-spenders hope you never figure out. If you make over $5.15 per hour you are prohibited from reading any further. Okay, three…two…one…here we go!
The raising of the minimum wage is not made to help you out of poverty; it is designed to keep you there.
It does not matter if the minimum wage is $5.15, $6.15 or $10.15 per hour, the cost of goods and services is directly tied to the cost of labor and production. If you make $10.15 per hour as minimum wage, expect to pay $8.00 for a Big Mac. Yes, the numbers are larger, but your buying ability relative to the price of goods hasn’t changed, and it won’t.
If you are trying to live on minimum wage you have two options:
1) Educate and train yourself. Become an expert at something. Accept greater risk and responsibility. And, if there is no opportunity for advancement in your current position, find a new one. Or…
2) Thank the master for the raise to $6.15. Quit barking. Stay where you are, and beg for the next government handout. By agreeing to remain in poverty you have become the voter base for those who toss you food scraps to keep you there. (Good dog! Now go get on your rug.)
I have worked minimum wage jobs. They are a beginning, not an end. The passage or failure of I-151 is meaningless. You control your destiny; make something of your life.
