We camped on top of the Big Horns over the Fourth. Double Rafter Cattle Drives had just finished their first trip of the season, so the Lake Creek horse pasture should have been full of horses, but it was not. Thinking a gate had been left open, Sunday morning the trophy wife, me and our new Aussie pup, Blinker, went for a run to check the gates. Sure enough, the north gate was open, and the horses had hit the gap faster than child-sex traffickers paddling their wares across the Rio Grande. It was a spectacular July morning run but trying to describe the appeal of high-mountain trail running to a non-runner is like trying to describe color to a blind person.

The horse tracks meandered around Rubber Boot Reservoir, but then lined out and continued down the ridge. This country was logged in the ‘70s so the heavy regrowth confused me as to the distance to the next water hole. After five miles, we gave up and returned to camp empty handed. My nephew, Taylor, pulled into camp and we explained our findings. Now the problem was his as he needed to haul all these ponies back to the valley for the next drive.

Still on a high from our morning run, we arrived home Sunday afternoon and found the latest edition of “Runner’s World” magazine in our mail. I used to enjoy reading human interest articles about the trail running adventures of others, but sadly those stories have disappeared, and this brings me to my point. “Runner’s World”, like many magazines, has become a print chatroom for disenfranchised women, minorities, and men so feminized they are practically lactating. Every article portrays runners as victims of oppression, racism, and sexism thanks to white guys like me. You may be sporting $250 running shoes while sipping $10 lattes and talking on your $1000 smart phone all financed with student loans, but you are still a victim of evil capitalism. The woke movement infecting America is more dangerous than the CCP virus because rather than being aerosolized in respiratory secretions, it is spread by thought. Social justice authors could be thousands of miles from your living room but if you read their writings and suffer the comorbidities of being spineless or college indoctrinated, you will become infected. America is being killed by a disease for which there is no shot, plus it is resistant to hydroxychloroquine and ivermectin. Grow a spine and reject the Marxist woke movement on every front, in every form and at every opportunity.
